Rising Star Nominees for LMAs

London Music Awards 19Rising Star Nominees Announced for London Music Awards

The nominations for the five Rising Star categories at this year’s London Music Awards have been announced today. Covering classical music, jazz, rock & pop, dance & electronica and composer/singer songwriter, each group shines a light on the most promising musicians the capital has to offer.

Organisations including UK Music, BPI, PPL, PRS, BASCA, MPA, Music Managers Forum, Royal College, Royal Academy, Trinity Laban, Guildhall, BBC Introducing, and record labels, were asked to submit their nominations. The criteria for entry to the Rising Star category state that nominees must be London born or London-living, and that they have performed or had their work performed live. There are no age restrictions for the category, and there is no need to be signed to a label. Each category was then judged by the London Music Awards’ judging panel, which includes the Southbank’s Jane Beese, Composer Errollyn Wallen MBE and festival owner Rob da Bank, among others (see below for a full list of judges). The awards, which take place at Camden’s Roundhouse on Thursday 11th June, have been established to recognise the capital’s wealth of talent, and the achievements of London’s aspiring young musicians, its rising stars and legendary performers.

Commenting on the Rising Star nominations, Mayor’s Music Fund Chief Executive Ginny Greenwood said: “The standard of nominations we received this year made the judges’ job of selecting a winner in each category very tough. There is so much up-and-coming talent out there and we are delighted that the London Music Awards provides a platform to showcase some of the very best musicians living and working in our great city”.

#Bestival15 / #SummerOfLove

A beacon of bacchanalia in a wonderland of ludicrously good times, our very own church of dance, Temple Island, is set to return with a litany of big guns to add even more passion to Bestival’s Summer of Love. Curated by The Physical Network and now a firm Bestival fixture among over 25 stages, revolutionary soundsystems and psychedelic woodland-based adventures, Temple Island will be taking all-out partying to epic proportions this September 10-13 at Robin Hill on the Isle of Wight.

Bestival’s principal dancer Rob da Bank says: “Bestival people! Man, I am so excited about the centre of our rave universe, Temple Island, and its line-up for 2015. Last year Temple Island, with its tiered stadium party vibe, was non-stop from Thursday till Sunday night, and one of my favourite places to hang out and get lost in my little pockets of downtime!

“This year I’m confident we’ve pulled some mega guests out the bag, from the mighty Hudson Mohawke to the incredible Madlib kicking it off on Thursday, chart botherers Disciples, Philip George and Alex Adair, plus our hardcore Friday night extravaganza, some vintage sounds from Sherwood & Pinch, and new blood Kurupt FM and B Traits, to name but a few. In fact, I can’t see a duff act within 100 decibels of that stage. Tops off, whistles out and get ready to rave… Temple Island-style…”

THE ROYAL PHILHARMONIC CONCERT ORCHESTRA FEATURING STAR OF ‘THE VOICE’ LUCY O’BYRNE

Facebook / Twitter / #SoundsintheGrounds

Sounds in the Grounds is a brand new event for the Midlands’ music calendar, to be hosted in the spectacular grounds of Warwick Castle. An exciting addition to a vibrant summer of events, this two-day extravaganza will see an incredible line-up of artists resonating with both the crowd and the historic setting this coming 10th and 11th July.

Executive Producer, Eric Allen says “We’re really excited to be working in such an iconic British landmark, with fantastic talent”.

Expect the limitless vivacity of Kaiser Chiefs to wow the masses as they headline on Friday 10th July. Following the success of No.1 album, the British society satire “Education, Education, Education & War”, Kaiser Chiefs are currently working on their sixth studio album from which “Falling Awake” is the first single to premier. Proven crowd pleasers, whose catalogue is brimming with sing-along anthems, there couldn’t be more fitting headliners for the event’s inaugural outing.

Read All About It! Chart-topping rapper, singer & songwriter, Professor Green will be gracing the stage at Sounds in the Grounds. Following the top five chart success of his third album Growing up in Public, you can expect an electric performance that will get feet tapping well into the night. Just be good to Green.

Also joining the bill is cool chanteuse Ella Eyre, who is quickly proving to be 2015’s rising superstar, having smashed the live circuit throughout the UK, Europe, Asia and Australia. A live dynamo, Ella’s enthralling live performances never fail to captivate. Her new single, ‘Together’, out this May, promises to bring as much acclaim as mega No.1 smash, ‘Changing’, the single she co-wrote with Sigma that brought her to widespread attention.

Saturday’s show will be an altogether different prospect dominated by classical fare featuring The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. The classical show will have the audience waving their union flags at the Castle with The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra taking to the stage to perform a selection of classical favourites, including Hornpipe, Rule Britannia!, Pomp and Circumstance March No.1 (Land of Hope and Glory) and Nimrod. The evening will come to a grand crescendo with a fantastic firework display lighting up the dusky sky.

Following their current stint at the Royal Albert Hall, The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra will be unmissable at Sounds in the Grounds. Conducted by impeccable music sculptor and West End legend David Firman, teamed with the idyllic historical setting of Warwick Castle, there will be no better location to experience this iconic performance.

For her first ever festival appearance, Dubliner Lucy O’Byrne will be joining The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. Her performance on the The Voice UK astounded the audience and won her the mentorship of will.i.am & Rita Ora. Eventually securing the show’s runner up spot for this year. Lucy has a bright future head of her.

We’re delighted to announce that Films in the Forest, Bestival’s late night cinema affair, returns to the Amphitheatre, welcoming with open arms and a warm celluloid hug those wandering souls who stumble across their cinematic wares deep in the Ambient Forest. Celebrating ‘Bestival’s Summer of Love’, programmers from Jersey’s Branchage Film Festival and London Short Film Festival have artfully selected nightly double bills under the banner of ‘Peace, Love & Harmonies’.

Upping the motion picture magic through the weekend, London Short Film Festival-selected short films will play each night in between the main features, and we’ll also have live pre-screening music from Brightonian folk troubadour Ben Parker, as well as plenty of cinema snacks and a bar for good measure!

Rob da Bank says: “Even though we’ve been doing it for years, I’m still totally amazed by how fantastic it is to wander into the Ambient Forest and chance upon a brilliant little cinema showing loads of ace films. This year our Films in the Forest crew have done us proud, showcasing our Summer of Love theme in all its splendour, especially with the inspirational Woodstock, and the scintillating Searching for Sugarman. So throw on your finest fancy dress and get down with us at the pictures”.
