BEST MAJOR FESTIVAL
British Summer Time in Hyde Park
In their second instalment of their coverage, Festival Insights discuss the ways some of the Bestival’s sponsors integrated their brands – from concept-driven paint parties to a gig atop a food truck. Bestival’s co-promoters, Get Involved come under the spotlight too, having played a major role in what organiser Rob da Bank referred to as ‘probably the best Bestival we’ve ever done’.
“While we keep on nurturing our direct relationships and partnerships with media across the board, we also work hard to bring Bestival’s iconic identity to life,” said Ziggy Gilsenan, Managing Director of Get Involved. “We’ve always got great themes, which spark a lot of creativity and we’ve had a lot of fun with that again this year, using Desert Island Disco as a catalyst for content creation, producing some unique ideas and innovative campaign tools”.

Bestival 2014 was a record breaker! Our four-day Desert Island Disco was an incredible paradise filled with the coolest castaways having the best party of all time. Ever.
Rocking our magical Desert Island location and casting their spell across a sea of sequins, we had headline sets from OutKast, Foals and Chic featuring Nile Rodgers, plus unbelievable disco action from Major Lazer, Disclosure, London Grammar, Basement Jaxx, Sven Väth, Annie Mac, Chase & Status, DJ Yoda, and The Cuban Brothers. There was more off the hook dancefloor behaviour at our brain-exploding rave boat The Port, the debut of our Invaders of the Future and Reggae Roots stages, the return of BBC Introducing and the magnificence of The Big Top hosted by BBC 6 Music, making it an incredible year for catching the best music around.
But as ever it’s not just about the music, there was food glorious food at the brand new Feast Collective, delicious cocktails at Josie da Bank’s Jam Jar Bar, jaw-dropping genius at Caravanserai, glam joy at the Grand Palace of Entertainment, madness and mayhem in the Ambient Forest, pageantry aplenty with the amazing Carnival Parade, and some especially epic fancy dress from you lot, our beloved Bestivalites, who make this festival so special.
Rob da Bank says: “I’ve just washed the glitter and magic Isle of Wight dust out of my hair for the third time since Monday and all I can think of are all the happy smiling faces of our best Bestival crowd yet. Hedonistic, fun and a bit wonky seemed to sum it up but you guys were looking after each other beautifully too… which after four days of partying is a must! Too many outstanding musical moments from headliners OutKast, Foals and Nile Rodgers, through to Beck, Basement Jaxx and a tear-jerking London Grammar, and too many amazing smaller bands to mention. Away from the noise the Feast Collective set the benchmark for festival food from now on, the Amphitheatre fell in love with spoken word and Shakespeare, we supported and raised money for a shed load of charities and Island ventures and, uh yeah, we broke the world record for the biggest disco ball. Boom! All in all a vintage Bestival, and we’re so glad you chose Bestival. Once the dust has settled, do the sensible thing and get onboard for 2015… See you in the magical fields in a year”.

LAST FEW TICKETS REMAINING, HURRY IF YOU WANT TO JOIN THE DESERT ISLAND DISCO
The Bestival countdown is officially into MAJOR EXCITEMENT territory with just one week to go until we’re dancing ashore for a monumental Desert Island Disco. We’ve got EVEN MORE castaways joining us across more than 20 stages, mega soundsystems and insane sideshows, adding to the 24-hour escapist joys and mind blowing non-stop parties at Robin Hill from 4-7 September. But beware, the last remaining tickets for our 11th jamboree are really flying out of the door, so if you want to get shipwrecked with us, you’re going to have to get those tickets now, while you still can!
Chief castaway Rob da Bank says: “Oh my goodness, a week to go and we’re onsite whacking in scaffold poles, erecting tents, hoovering up cowpats, testing sound systems, laying trackway, marking out campsites, and most importantly, mowing the grass where the biggest disco ball in the world is going to sit before its raised into space on Sunday! A few key acts still coming onboard including my personal fave of 2014 the amazing Sohn… see you next week Bestivalites!”
DIVING HEADLONG INTO UNKNOWN CORNERS
CLUB DADA / POLKA IN THE TRAVELLING BARN /
PIG’S BIG BALLROOM / THE ORDER OF NEVER HIDE WITH RAY BAN / OBERON’S OBSERVATORY / CARAVANSERAI
As you wend your merry way across Bestival’s Desert Island Disco, past the jaw-dropping brilliance of The Port, and through Bollywood’s exotic charms, out across the Stardust Field and beyond, far into the Grassy Hill, you might just be lucky enough to stumble across some of Bestival’s fabled jewels and hidden delights. Tucked away in unknown corners there are myriad pleasures to discover, and hours of enchantment and hilarity to unearth. Brimming with wondrous and unexpected raptures, Bestival is a gold mine of the preposterous; a demented kingdom of unanticipated folly in moonstruck fields of Elysium.
Rob da Bank says: “I love all the music at Bestival, (obviously!) but one of the things I get most excited about every year is all the wildness and magical stuff you just fall into without realising what’s happening. We’ve got some top notch line-ups for Club Dada, all the mad Polka stuff in the lovely Travelling Barn and Pig’s Big Ballroom action that will make you dance all night long, so be sure to check them out. And keep on exploring – you never know what you might find”.
