Taking its place among more than 20 stages in 10 fields of wonderment with mega soundsystems, non-stop parties and 24-hour escapism, Bestival are delighted to announce that Red Bull Music Academy will be returning to Robin Hill once again in 2014 with a mind-blowing new stage featuring a stunning altar dedicated to dance and a winged deity. Joining a throng of castaways cutting some rug from September 4th – 7th, Red Bull Music Academy has lined up some incredible daily hosts to take control of the stage and rock our Desert Island Disco, keeping you on your feet all weekend long.

Rob da Bank says: “Oh wow… Am I excited about this stage in 2014! I love working with Red Bull who have been at the majority of the last 11 Bestivals in some form or other musically. We definitely share a love of underground electronic music from all over the world and this year we’ve nailed our biggest line up yet. Jackmaster and his Numbers crew are simply the best party people around right now, the total legend that is Harvey used to DJ at my club Sunday Best 15 years ago and is still the man for awe inspiring leftfield DJ sets for disco heads, Tropical is where its at right now as grime, house and bass collide in a sunshine vibe and Diplo comes straight from the main stage with his Major Lazer crew to mash up the grand finale. Seriously this is gonna be a lock out from Thursday to Monday! Check it!”

Black Sabbath Time!

BST_BS_layers_1040x400newsstory_maineventpage

ALERT! LONDON, PREPARE YOURSELF! THE PRINCE OF DARKNESS BRINGS ROCK ROYALTY TO HYDE PARK!

BLACK SABBATH ARE TAKING OVER HYDE PARK ON 4TH JULY AND WILL BE JOINED BY SOUNDGARDEN AND SPECIAL GUESTS FAITH NO MORE

After a triumphant return back on the rock scene last year, Black Sabbathare now thundering into Hyde Park to cast a night of darkness in what is set to be a bright summer. The legendary Ozzy Osbourne and his band mates Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi will be headlining the same stage that fellow rock legends The Rolling Stones presided over for two historic gigs last year.

Not content with just taking over the park, British Summer Time becomes Black Sabbath Time! Announcing their show with an impressive takeover of the Royal Park, the band will blaze onto the Great Oak Stage in Hyde Park for their first ever performance at the venue later this year.

Hailing from Birmingham in the late ’60s, Black Sabbath are the undisputed founders of British heavy rock. They have always undoubtedly been one of the best live bands in the world. In 2013, the band returned in the most triumphant style with a global number one album, sell out tours and a prestigious Classic Rock Living Legends award. From their first visit to London to record their debut album to selling out the O2 last year, the band have one ambition left, to melt the faces off the Hyde Park crowd.

As Ozzy says: “The first time I came to London I didn’t have a pot to piss in and I spent the advance I got for the first album on a new pair of shoes and some Brut aftershave. Returning almost 50 years on, we are doing a it better for ourselves so I may even splash out on some new aftershave before taking to the stage at Hyde Park, the most beautiful park in London that has opened its gates to so many legends in the past. We are beyond honoured to be allowed to put on a show and hope that the Royals will enjoy the it!

FOOD FORTNIGHT

BRINGING CULINARY COOL TO YOU

Food glorious food!  Food has always been a highlight at Camp Bestival, from the Young British Foodies and Gizzie Erskine, to the Underground Restaurant, the Surplus Supper Club, and myriad amazing street foods, the Camp Bestival roustabouts have strived to make the grub on offer the very best.  Well, this year, we’ve trumped them all by creating the ultimate taste-fest, a celebration of all that is great about the British food movement – introducing The Feast Collective! A delectable celebration of creative food makers we regard as exceptional street food traders, artisan food producers, specialty chefs, and organisers of pop-up supper clubs from across the UK, we will also be selecting at least two popular restaurants to join us in the fields to create the ultimate outdoor feasting experience.

Food has always been one of the stars of the show at Camp Bestival and The Feast Collective will take it to the next level, showcasing a heavenly selection of the exquisite things happening in the food scene right now, with a carefully curated collection of appetising offerings complementing each other perfectly. Situated in front of the Castle with views of the main stage and plenty of green spaces to picnic, The Feast Collective will be a space where all the family wants to hang out. With long tables for communal dining, a bar with mixologists, talks, demos and the hustle bustle of a trading market space, it will be THE destination to head for food and drink.

Josie da Bank says: “Food is such an important part of family life and often the foundations of our social lives; sitting around the kitchen table with the children or wine and lunch with your oldest and dearest friends.  It makes sense that we feature food as one of the stars of our festival; it’s something we’ve always done.

“We have surpassed ourselves this year with the debut of a new foodie alliance; The Feast Collective.  The likes of the lovely Martin Morales and Jack Monroe will be working as ambassadors and cooking up a storm on site and we have cherry-picked the cream of current talent to serve you up amazing dishes all weekend – from beautifully spiced Indian and exotic Mexican street foods to local shellfish, crafted cocktails and perfect baking.  This is seriously good food and drink from some of our country’s most exciting chefs, cooks and producers.

“Take the time to wander through the marquee and smell and taste what’s on offer, talk to the people behind the cuisine, grab a glass of something beautiful, share a bit with your friends and picnic on the lawn with your family in the sunshine.  It’ll be a culinary carnival under canvas!”

Bestival’s Big Top Stage!

bestival-6music-announce-milestone-FINAL-v2

ELECTRIC ECLECTICISM – BIG TOP STAGE REVEALED!

HOSTED BY BBC RADIO 6 MUSIC

BONOBO / SBTRKT / DARKSIDE / TEMPLES / DJ YODA / DAN LE SAC VS SCROOBIUS PIP / PETER HOOK & THE LIGHT: UNKNOWN PLEASURES / CATE LE BON / NICK MULVEY / DENAI MOORE / PUBLIC SERVICE BROADCASTING / RADIOPHONIC WORKSHOP / ADY SULIEMAN

The Big Top, old ‘big blue’ in the main arena is Bestival’s action-packed, genre busting second largest stage, amidst a myriad of mind-blowing musical and immersive experiences and insane Bestival micro-parties. Opening the show on Thursday night with a line-up big enough to grace almost any other festival’s main stage, it’s where the best breakthrough acts rub shoulders with cult heroes and international favourites. Giving genre-specific cosiness a swerve, The Big Top is awe-inspiring eclecticism brought to life and programmed for maximum aceness. And this year it’s going to be even better than ever, as, for the very first time, we have teamed up with BBC Radio 6 Music to present The Big Top Hosted by BBC Radio 6 Music on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with the cream of 6 Music’s presenter line-up DJing in between acts, bringing you the very best music round the clock.

Rob da Bank says: “I probably spend more time in The Big Top at Bestival than in any other space. The Main Stage has lots of huge and excellent acts on, but The Big Top is the intimate beating heart of Bestival and getting sweaty with 10,000 other Bestivalites to the most cutting edge indie, electronic and folk acts is always fun. I’m really pleased with the new additions from the incredible cinematic electronica of Nicolas Jaar’s Darkside project through to dance mania from SBTRKT, the hottest indie band in the UK, Temples, and old friends Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip and Peter Hook doing Joy Division. See you down the front…if you’re up for it!”

BBC Radio 6 Music Editor James Stirling said: “BBC Radio 6 Music is really excited to be working with Bestival for the first time this year. The fantastic line-up on The Big Top stage follows 6 Music’s ethos of mixing alternative-spirited established artists such as Beck and Basement Jaxx with emerging talent such as Temples and Cate Le Bon. Some of our presenting family will be there DJing, introducing some of the artists on stage and generally bringing the spirit of the festival alive for our audience”.

With a deeply ingrained sense of adventure, our four-day Robin Hill soiree this September 4th – 7th is set to be an enchanted universe of convention defying oddments, jaw-dropping spectacles and mind-altering experiences. A ravishing jewel in the crown of Bestival’s faraway fairyland is undoubtedly The Grand Palace of Entertainment; an inhibition eliminating, twisted wonderland, featuring dazzling queens and party-starting midnight cowboys, all waiting to take you on an unforgettable rainbow-coloured ride.

Rob da Bank says: “I don’t know why but Bestival has always had a little undercurrent of high camp, flamboyance and downright gay attitude running through it, which we’ve thoroughly embraced and encouraged. The last couple of years at the Grand Palace have seen this venue really pick up the pace with so many amazingly hysterical and hilarious drag acts, cabaret superstars and disco divas arriving in their droves. I love seeing very worried looking young men going in the door in their jeans and t-shirts and falling out the back door hours later festooned in sequins and pink feather boas with massive grins on their faces. What a place!”
