•	An eclectic mix of innovative, ground-breaking acts manage to secure the festival’s spirit and provide the musical kudos.- Virtual Festivals

The countdown to this year’s Dot To Dot is hotting up with just a month to go until a litany of the globe’s biggest buzz bands hits Bristol, Nottingham and Manchester over this coming Jubilee bank holiday weekend. Headlined by The Drums and Pulled Apart By Horses, and with appearances from Wavves, Willis Earl Beal, Dog Is Dead, Summer Camp, Lucy Rose, Pond and more, the tri-city event is set to reveal even more must-see acts for 2012, and you can catch them all for the mind-blowing ticket price of just £20!

Says Dot To Dot Organiser Anton Lockwood: “There’s under a month to go until Dot To Dot 2012 and the latest acts joining us showcase what a fantastically exciting line-up of new music we have on offer. From high octane rock to soulful singer songwriters these are the acts that people will be talking about all summer long and with tickets currently £20 it’s great value for money’.”

Currently enjoying widespread critical acclaim for his second, Steve Albini produced, long player ‘Attack on Memory’, Dylan Baldi AKA Cloud Nothings who first came to the music world’s attention with his pithy lo-fi power-pop in 2009 are the first of the latest wave of bands to be announced for Dot To Dot. Honing his craft on the road over the past two years with a crack live band, Cloud Nothings’ sound has quickly matured into compelling gritty indie-rock territory, giving the band a real shot at stadium-filling glory, so make sure you catch them first in intimate surrounds at Dot To Dot.

One of the most exciting bands to have emerged from New York in the past year, Dot To Dot are delighted to announce that Friends will be playing the Nottingham leg of this year’s event. Named after Brian Wilson’s favourite Beach Boys album, Friends have left a trail of slack-jawed hipsters in the wake of their effortlessly cool percussive heavy take on post-disco funk-pop. Taking Liquid Liquid and ESG’s blueprint and bringing it bang up to date, they’re a top drawer live act that knows how to rock a party.

Also adding some serious weight to proceedings are The Internet Syd Tha Kyd and Matt Martians from Odd Future playing their only shows outside of London. The first act out of the traps on OFWGKTA’s Odd Future Records, with their debut long player Purple Naked Ladies, The Internet’s hip-hop soul has garnered them high praise across the board. Sibling duo 2:54 will also be bring their love of a bit of lo-fi action to Dot To Dot. Embodying the new face of Riot Grrrrl, 2:54’s blend of ethereal vocals and abrasive guitars has made them a stand-out live act who are sure to be one of Dot To Dot’s biggest draws. Mixing pure emotion and rock n roll dynamics, A Plastic Rose will be demonstrating exactly why their incisive riffs have been winning over audiences across the UK and Ireland. With their debut album due for release in September this year, the band are releasing a series of singles and hitting the festival circuit in the run up, beginning with their performance at Dot To Dot.

Channelling the spirit of Britrock, Stoke’s All The Young, who are currently making a name for themselves reinvigorating guitar-powered rock n roll for a new generation will also be joining the bill. A direct reaction to the identikit pop that currently rules the airwaves, All The Young’s swaggering live show is one not to miss. Canadian tip for the top Doldrums another of the latest bands to join the bill, are set to be journeying the triumvirate of Dot To Dot cities. Fusing art-rock and electronica, Doldrums AKA Aldrick Woodhead is one of the most forward thinking producers around.

Steeped in the defining sounds of the last 60 years of pop, music obsessives Two Wounded Birds who have steadily built a reputation as one of the best live bands on the circuit will also be hitting Dot To Dot’s triumvirate of cities. Championed by The Drums’ Jon Pierce, the band has also gained high praise from the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson and Blondie’s Debbie Harry for their exhilarating performances and timeless pop. Psychedelic electro folk five-piece Here We Go Magic will also be appearing at Bristol on June 2nd and Nottingham on June 3rd. Creating their songs from melodies that can turn from gorgeous to challenging to a little scary and back again, they’re truly mesmerising and worth seeking out.

Adding even more thrills to the burgeoning bill, there will also be appearances from double-headed mackem drum behemoth Hyde & Beast, featuring the Futureheads’ Dave Hyde and Golden Virgins’ Neil Bassett, luscious Leeds based vocal harmonisers The Dunwells, alternative rocker Eugene Francis Jr (Bristol / Manchester) Brooklyn’s hardcore psych-rockers The Men who will be playing the Manchester leg on June 4th, soaring guitar-smiths Last Dinosaurs, disaffected pomp from O Children, a DJ Set from Metronomy’s Olugbenga, 19 year-old wunderkind Lewis Watson who has clocked up more than two million YouTube views for his emotionally charged song writing, Josh Kumra whose gutsy and heartfelt live show is getting those in the know hot under the collar, uber-producer and rising start Kwes, singer songwriter Mary Epworth, Bristol mobs The Other Tribe and Seasfire playing their home town date and electro trio Sunless 97 in Nottingham and Manchester.

As well as championing the most vital new music around, Dot To Dot organisers will is also be nurturing wider creative talents in 2012 with a competition to get your hands on a coveted photo pass! Dot To Dot have a photo pass, which gives you access to Dot To Dot venue photo pits, for each city up for grabs, and all you have to do to enter is post the best live shot you’ve ever taken to twitter with the hashtag #D2DFestPhoto or tag Dot To Dot Festival in your photo on Facebook. Three winners (one for each city) will receive a photo pass and the chance to get up close and personal with some of the most exciting acts around. This is a rare opportunity or you to get your foot in the door of the world of live photography, don’t miss it!

WE’RE TWINNING WITH EXIT FESTIVAL!

www.bestival.net / facebook.com/bestivalfestival / Twitter: @bestival / #wildlife

We’ve told you about our amazing headliners, Stevie Wonder and New Order, we’ve told you about exclusives from The xx and Sigur Rós and we’ve told you all about the off-piste madness from the Swamp Shack and Wishing Tree to the Ambient Forest and Roller Disco, our Wildlife theme and everything in between. But we still haven’t finished yet because now it’s time to tell you about even more beautiful music for you to luxuriate in at Robin Hill Country Park this September 6th -9th.

We’re thrilled to announce that Back to the Phuture will be returning for the third year running to open Bestival’s four-day escapist escapades. Very much a Thursday night institution, Back to the Phuture travels through time joining the musical dots of the past, present and phuture in their own immaculate style. As ever, the line-up is second to none featuring previously announced long time Bestival cohorts Hot Chip, the governor of all things synth Gary Numan, the super-hotly tipped Alabama Shakes, electronic music pioneer and inspiration to a generation John Foxx and the Maths and electro rockers Killaflaw. There will also be floor smashing DJ sets from The 2 Bears, acid legend Adamski and Back to the Phuture’s own Mark Jones.

Says Back to the Phuture mainman Mark Jones: “It’s great to be back at Bestival for a third year with Back to the Phuture and a truly amazing line up of inspiring artists. Tomorrow is Today………Today is Tomorrow….. Bring the Noize!”

Also adding their not inconsiderable talents to our jam-packed bill of live musical cheer are the stunningly soulful Jessie Ware, self-described ‘motivational speaker with harmonious intentions’ Willis Earl Beal, rap-punk-ravers Murkage, super-distinctive microphone champion Skepta, singer song-writer and soon-to-be superstar Jake Bugg, spine-tingling harmonisers Staves, duelling boy-girl vocalists Sunless 97, Brit-electro types The Other Tribe, Mancunians Parma Violets, Eastern European folk flavoured South Londoners Georgeous George, folk-punk four-piece Crowns, live freestyle breaks dons Subgiant and shoestring-popsters Daytona Lights. Plus there will be appearances from Charley Macaulay, Alonestar and the Isle of Wight’s very own A Way Of Life and This Way Up.

Everyone in the Bestival Bunker is well excited about Parisian genius Brodinski coming to Bestival. A man after our own hearts Brodinski’s taste is as wide as our smiles when we’re reaching for the lasers at one of his gigs, covering filthy techno, bass heavy house and minimal vibes. You know you have to be there when he raises the roof! Anyone who knows their onions when it comes to dance music will know that Gilles Peterson is an utter legend on a quest to find the perfect beat and we’re jolly pleased that he’s taking his search to the Isle of Wight to exhibit his impeccable taste for all you lucky Bestivalites. And that’s not all, as Redlight will be navigating the space between house, bass music and beyond, smashing it up with his jet-propelled bangers, jungle pioneer Shy FX will be there in full effect, plus there will be deck wrecking action from Dalston doyens Gutterslut, glitchy Dubstepper Zomboy, cut and scratch monster Krafty Kuts, edit-genius Duff Disco, bhangra chief Sonnyji Presents Bang Bhang, cosmic disco dude Flying White Dots and local boy done good Kaf-Tan.

We’re also delighted to announce that Bestival will be teaming up with Exit Festival to take part in the Association of Independent Festivals (AIF) Twin Festivals initiative. Deriving from the popular ‘twin towns’ concept the scheme aims to create a cultural exchange between the UKs leading independent festivals and their international counterparts and both festivals have plenty of ideas up their sleeves to benefit both artists and festivalgoers from Serbia and the Isle of Wight this summer.

Says Rob da Bank: “I’m so pleased that we’re twinning with Exit – my one visit there has stayed lodged in my festival brain as one of my favourite memories…playing records in an old fort to the most hedonistic party people this side of …well Bestival! So much energy, good vibes and great acts playing – hopefully something that we share with Exit at Bestival. Long may we be brothers and sisters in sound!”

Says EXIT General Manager Bojan Boskovic: “We are so excited to be twinning with Bestival this year as we have watched it bloom from a wonderful ethos into one of the largest and most musically exciting festivals around! Bestival has a great energy, an immense and interesting line up and who can compete with the unique ideas and artwork each year. Exchanging acts and ideas, we also hope some of our followers will make the journey to Bestival and we look forward to welcoming Bestival fans to our crazy fortress”.

To benefit local artists each festival has put forward acts to swap and play at each others events. The Playground Syndicate will play at EXIT and The Good Guys will play at Bestival. Each act will also blog about their experience playing at the twinned festival.

Hailing for the Isle of Wight, The Playground Syndicate are made up of 2 DJ’s (Elmo & Beavz) and the visual brilliance of the A.V Circus. These boys are seriously talented individuals and when they come together they are a mega force, twisting your mind with warped visuals, DJing with huge creative energy and reinventing the tunes they play within the mix

DJ duo The Good Guys aka Bojan Cizmic and Andrija Kovac play a mixture of electronic folk, guitars and samplers with no boundaries and are rising stars in the Serbian underground electronic music scene. With over 30 productions under their belt covering a range of styles from folk trash to nu rave the pair have broken out of their native Eastern Europe and are now playing gigs all over the world.

Twinned festivals will be sharing not only artists and expertise but also audiences, as 10 lucky competition winners will be given the chance to experience the twin festival in action. And one lucky winner from each festival will also get the chance to win a trip to the twin festival with travel and accommodation for them and a mate. Announcements will follow on both festival websites in the coming months with more information and how to enter.

Now in its third year the AIF scheme has gone from strength to strength with participating festivals successfully building local awareness of their twins through cross press and marketing promotions. As well as sharing links on their websites, twinned festivals also include twinning information on flyers, marketing materials and in their PR campaigns to local media and once their own event has sold out help to market their international twin through their media channels. Talent discussions have helped to co-ordinate bookings of international artists and further reinforce the fundamental values that unite the festivals.

Taking place from Thursday 12th – Sunday 15th July, in the magical Petrovaradin Fortress overlooking the river Danube, EXIT continues to deliver the most adventurous and value for money festival experience, with a diverse and cutting edge line up, cheap food and drink onsite and the best campsite entertainment whilst bathing in the hot Balkan sunshine. Tickets are onsale now from only £95 for a 4 day festival pass. For more info and tickets http://eng.exitfest.org/

Sadly we have just heard that Azealia Banks is cancelling all of her summer shows in the UK and that includes Bestival but we have just confirmed an AMAZING new act to announce which we will tell you all about early next week and we still have our Friday night headliner under wraps, news of which will be coming soon too, so keep on checking in at www.bestival.net, and our Facebook page and Rob da Bank’s Twitter for all the latest goodness.

Notes to Editors:

The Association of Independent Festivals is a non-profit trade association created to represent UK independent music festivals. The aim is to help the businesses of individual AIF members, and help the needs of the independent festival sector.

Brain child of Rob da Bank (Bestival) and Ben Turner (Graphite Media), AIF operates as an autonomous division of AIM (Association of Independent Music) with its own board and structure. It is chaired by AIM Chairman Alison Wenham, joining some of the UK’s strongest and most creative music festivals as founder members. Combined attendance of AIF members’ events is in excess of 300,000 people.

AIF is set up to promote the UK’s independently spirited festivals, encouraging efficient management of events, and therefore a better experience for audiences. By sharing knowledge about theft and crime for example, AIF can help to create a safer and more enjoyable festival experience. Through advice, joint purchasing and pooling of resources AIF can assist festivals in cost savings from staging and lighting to security and infrastructure. Networking and seminar events are open to members, friends and industry.

The countdown to this year’s RockNess is on and festival organisers today have announced yet even more fresh and exciting talent, plus an absolute blinder of an electro treat, to the already heaving-with-quality line up.

As one of the biggest names in techno, it is impossible to love the genre and not be familiar with the name JEFF MILLS. And if there wasn’t a word like “Wizard” to describe him it would be necessary to invent one. A founding member of the noted Detroit techno collective Underground Resistance, along with “Mad” Mike Banks and Robert “Noise” Hood, as well as past resident of New York’s legendary Limelight, signed artist on Berlin’s acclaimed Tresor label and creator of Chicago’s Axis Recordings, plus countless other groundbreaking achievements of note, JEFF MILLS is revered as a demi-God by electro purists the world over.

Now in a very special appearance, an absolute must for techno connoisseurs, RockNess is thoroughly delighted to announce the maestro will join the exceptional line up of this year’s SUB CLUB SOUND SYSTEM 25 Years celebrations. Expect an unforgettable set as JEFF MILLS, under the moniker of ‘The Wizard’, whips up a storm of unparalleled ferocious intensity playing a set of funk, soul and extremely rare early electro classics.

Inspired at the outset by the likes of Nirvana, Mudhoney and The Pixies, Irish rock group ASH have notched up five studio albums (and a mini album) and countless top 40 hits. ‘Girl From Mars’, ‘Oh Yeah’, ‘Burn Baby Burn’… ASH make great pop songs. Heralded as the ultimate singles band, the 3-piece turned their back on the traditional route of recording an album every couple of years and set up their own studio and label, Atomic Heart Records. This newfound freedom enabled the band to record and release songs at will. Thus was born the A-Z Series – a collection of 26 songs released fortnightly for an entire year. 2011 saw Charlotte Hatherley return to join the band for a one-off tour to much acclaim. 2012 sees the 20th anniversary of ASH with an appropriate celebration stop off at Dores.

RockNess favourite ROB DA BANK is Highlands-bound again this year too, back to thrill as always no doubt with a big heaving box of stupendously tasty audio delights. ROB DA BANK’s shows are a colourful corner of the musical universe where you’re as likely to stumble into stripped down techno as you are woozy weird folk, bootleg covers, brand new dubstep to oddball electronic so expect the unexpected!

The rise of Yorkshire indie rockers THE PIGEON DETECTIVES is one based on strength of tunes – launched with hit drenched debut Wait For Me, and a relentless approach to touring. Feted by the likes of Steve Lamacq and Jo Wiley, three albums in and with a fourth scheduled for an autumn 2012 release, the platinum selling five piece are set to bring their sound of sculpting guitars and scudding choruses to the festival following a highly successful European tour.

ERRORS is a four piece band from Glasgow with a unique take on dance music. Signed to the brilliant Mogwai’s Rock Action label, they have to date released a series of singles, EPs and their debut album “It’s Not Something But It Is Like Whatever” and these releases have brought them acclaim across the board from MTV, Zane Lowe and Vic Galloway along with sessions at Maida Vale for Mary Anne Hobbs, Rob Da Bank and Huw Stephens, magazines such as NME, Dazed and Confused and Rock Sound as well as tours and live dates with bands as varied as Underworld, Franz Ferdinand, Explosions In The Sky, Gary Numan and Mogwai. NME has hailed them as “one of the most interesting bands in the country”. Don’t miss ERRORS at RockNess this June.

SOUND OF GUNS return to RockNess once again with their surefire power and raw energy. Hailing from Liverpool, SOUND OF GUNS have blazed a trail since they formed in 2008 cementing their deserved reputation for delivering searing rock with their second album, Angels and Enemies picking up support from Zane Low and Xfm along the way.

THE CORRESPONDENTS take a large helping a swing, jazz, cha-cha-cha and much more from the history of music and add a large helping of fat drum and bass and electro beats to create something that’s unique in the current musical landscape. And with frontman Mr Bruce’s high voltage performance depicting the trials and errors of love, lust and loss they have consistently destroyed crowds on the festival circuit marking them out as a must see act.

A plethora of exciting new breakthrough talent is announced for the line up too. Young Scottish singer songwriter NINA NESBITT has been generating much interest after being spotted by ED SHEERAN and Example (both of whom she subsequently supported on tour). With comparisons to Laura Marling and Kate Nash, check out her set to see just why all the fuss.

Former Groove Armada collaborator Becky Jones AKA SAINT SAVIOUR has a captivating vocal style that has seen her compared to Kate Bush and Sinead O’Connor. Having recently toured with Hurts, she has her debut album ‘Union’ due for release a fortnight after her appearance at RockNess.

ALL THE YOUNG are Britrock revivalists whose sounds ooze the feel good factor of classic 90s indie. Mixing brains and brawn the band have come to smash 2012 into a brave new frontier of indie rock n roll, honing their craft with a series of support slots for the likes of Morrissey, Kaiser Chiefs, The Courteneers, The Wombats, Hard-Fi and The Pigeon Detectives.

Brooklyn rapper THEOPHILUS LONDON built his reputation with a series of must-have mixtapes making him one of the biggest buzz acts on the planet. His debut album Timez Are Weird These Days was critically acclaimed when it was released last summer and Theophilus is sure to rock the crowds with his take an alternative hip-hop.

Commenting on these latest announcements, Festival Director Jim King said: “We’re delighted with this announcement. Jeff Mills closing his stage on the Sunday night is going to be something special”

We totally love comedy at Camp Bestival and we’ve always made sure we’ve given you the best that the comedy circuit has to offer and this year is no exception! We’ve got laughs aplenty for all ages in our side-splitting line-up of top drawer comics who will be joining our previously announced comedy headliner Jimmy Carr at Lulworth Castle this July 26-29.

For this one Rob da Bank would like to introduce Camp Bestival Comedy Guru, Get Comedy’s Brett Vincent who says: “Once again Camp Bestival has a stellar line-up of comedians over the weekend from some of the best emerging talent on the comedy circuit to famous TV names and the beat-boxing noise maker legend that is Michael Winslow. We’re also very proud to be the only music festival this year and possibly ever to host the biggest face in comedy (literally) Jimmy Carr. We also have dedicated comedy shows for kids with the best kids comedy show at the Edinburgh Festival last year… The Adventurers Club and now firmly rooted resident at Camp Bestival – Comedy Club 4 Kids. My top picks would be… Benny Boot and Ian Stone on Friday, Rufus Hound hosting on Saturday, Andrew Maxwell followed by Early Edition and then Michael Winslow on the Sunday and of course Jimmy who is closing the Festival late Sunday night….”

We’re delighted that Police Academy legend and ‘Man of 10,000 Voices’, Michael Winslow will be wowing the crowds at this year’s Camp Bestival. An utter genius who does the seemingly impossible with just his voice, anyone who saw Michael at last year’s Camp Bestival knows they’re in for an unbelievable treat! We’ll also have Cheryl Cole impersonator extraordinaire Rufus Hound who will be joining us on the Jurassic coast to unleash his moustachioed comedy mayhem. Known for his turns on Celebrity Juice and Argumental, Rufus is a master of his art and one not to miss, plus we’ll have a high octane outing from Camp Bestival favourite Andrew Maxwell who knows something extremely funny about everything.

Those with a satirical bent will very pleased to know that the Early Edition will be returning to Camp Bestival once again. A live comedy panel show hosted by Marcus Brigstocke and Andre Vincent, The Early Edition tears into the tabloids, lambasts the broadsheets, ridicules the naysayers, unravels the spin and pooh-poohs the pomposity of headline print.

Also adding to our festival frivolities will be the edgy and provocative Ian Stone who was recently voted one of Britain’s top ten stand ups by the Independent, Ben Norris who you may have seen recently on Mock the Week, Andre Vincent who once opened for Bob Hope and played himself on Byker Grove and Benny Boot who was by far the stand out performer at the Altitude Festival in Austria this year with our moustachioed friend Rufus Hound commenting: “Benny Boot offers something unique. I’m not sure exactly what it is, as I couldn’t concentrate – I was laughing too damn hard!”

And there will be top turns from Joel Dommett who was a regular on E4’s Skins, has appeared on Russell Howards Good News and can now be seen daily on MTV reading the news, Camp Bestival regular Eric Lampaert who you’ll know from the TV channel VIVA and who is T4’s rising star of 2012, Paul McCaffrey, who at the time of writing this press release was on Russell Howards Good News this week, George Egg who over the years has won legions of fans with his oversized suitcase of props, fantastic songs and who is one of the only comedians who is described as a cross between alternative stand-up and music hall variety and ex-Labour Party stalker Matt Forde who currently has his own 5Live show and is regular on Jon Richardson’s and Russell Howard’s radio shows.

It’s not all grown up comedy capers at Camp Bestival though there’s plenty of hilarity for the kids too, including Comedy Club 4 Kids with regular compere Tiernan Douieb which is back for the third year running. Cracking entertainment for the young’uns Comedy Club 4 Kids is comedians doing what they do best but without the rude bits! And brand new to Camp Bestival this year is The Adventurers Club with Tim Fitzhigham. A smash hit sell-out kid’s show from the Edinburgh Fringe the Adventurers Club is off on a trip doomed to failure. Make sure you catch this award winning show for an afternoon of sheer hilarious adventure!

We’re really pushing the boat out for our fifth Camp Bestival with incredible music from Happy Mondays, Hot Chip, Kool and the Gang, Chic featuring Nile Rodgers, Rolf Harris, Rizzle Kicks, Mr Tumble, The Gruffalo, Dick and Dom and Shrek the Musical plus arty escapades from The Tate, a literary whirlwind of talks, spoken word and poetry at the East Lulworth Literary Institute, amazing food and 100s of free things for kids to do.

And we’ve still got more marvellous treats up our sleeves to let you know about but tickets are selling like hot cakes so if you want to join us for a fantasy festi-holiday larks make sure you get in there quick! And keep on checking www.campbestival.net and our Facebook and Twitter for all the latest about Camp Bestival!

TIM MINCHIN

A host of must-see names are set to bring heaps of hilarity to RockNess this summer as the festival announces its hugely popular comedy line up, headlined by rock superstar TIM MINCHIN.

From the freshest homegrown talent to some of the biggest comics from around the globe, it’ll be rip roaring giggles galore each day.

First up is Scotland’s fast rising comic prodigy DANIEL SLOSS. Half-man-half-Xbox, this twenty one year-old started doing stand-up aged just 16. Three sold-out Edinburgh Fringe seasons, appearances on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, Rob Brydon Show, Jason Manford’s Comedy Rocks and Mock the Week plus his own BBC show The Adventures of Daniel followed – all before he started to shave. Now with a 50 date UK tour under his belt and just-recorded stand up DVD, RockNess welcomes the self deprecating and unstoppable star in the making to Dores.

Like a comedic Kalashnikov, DES CLARKE’s sets are a blistering cacophony of comic neurosis, astonishing humour delivered with an energetic scattergun style. A clutch of awards and countless TV appearances bear testament to his genius wit, also heard each morning across the Capital Breakfast airwaves as he stirs the nation.

THE REVEREND OBADIAH STEPPENWOLFE III – the alter ego of Jim Muir – is a one man tornado, a fount of masterfully timed, pitch-perfect jokes that flout the very laws of censure. He once was lost but now he’s saved, explains the bearded, shade-wearing, white-smocked Obadiah, in a Southern preacher’s drawl. In his moments of temptation, Obadiah asks himself what would Charlie Sheen do? Channelling the spirit of every crazed hick who ever found God – the hard-drinking, spouse-abusing, morally bankrupt Reverend grinds all the usual subjects (sex, drugs, religion, porn). Howlingly funny.

BILLY KIRKWOOD, the Ayrshire born ‘comedy fizz bomb’ is a must see with a massive cult following. His surreal style of storytelling and near non existent attention span is unspeakably juvenile and undeniably funny. Joining him is Aussie comic BENNY BOOT, aka alter ego Water Montgomery, the big-wigged South African and ‘President of Stand-Up Comedy’ renowned for unleashing an arsenal of consistently brilliant gags in a unique manner of disdain.

Also on this year’s line up is a comedian who walks a fine line between irony and downright obnoxiousness, MARTY McLEAN. His fearlessness of offending is legendary and the laughter in the audience is usually peppered with gasps of disbelief, and occasional cries of outrage, as those who witnessed him at last year’s RockNess will testify. Previous Scottish Comedian of the Year winner RO CAMPBELL is back for more again too. The cheeky Aussie has entertained audiences from Bangalore to Helsinki with a few maximum security prison gigs in between, and was hailed “biggest laugh of RockNess 2011” by the NME. Top notch.

SCOTT AGNEW is tough, funny and original, with a brilliant and distinctively Glaswegian line in creative insults, RockNess is delighted to welcome back Scott for what promises to be another big, burly, barnstorming performance. Unmissable. Alongside Scott Agnew, and with a repertoire of blistering, unadulterated material which pushes dangerously near the boundaries of good taste is one of Scotland’s true comedy gems, MARK NELSON. Winner of the inaugural Scottish Comedian of the Year and with a sold out Fringe debut, Mark’s RockNess performance is strongly recommended. ‘Nelson possesses a talent that’s simply obscene… a star in the making’ LIST.

Perched on the shoulder of decency, shouting his skewed, dark view of the world, PARROT is one of stand-up comedy’s great mavericks. His massive influence on the modern comedy scene extends far beyond his own stand-up act, having written for such stars as Dave Allen, Jack Dee and Jo Brand and shows including Rab C Nesbitt and Jonathan Ross Live. Expect a hard-hitting, quick-fire performance.

If there’s a rabble that needs roused, ALAN ANDERSON is the comic of choice. One of Scotland’s top comperes, he has shared a stage with Johnny Vegas, Peter Kay and Jimmy Carr, annually hosts the heats of the Scottish Comedian of the Year, and most match days can be found hosting gigs in the nation’s main sporting grounds. Joining Anderson is happy-go-lucky and loveable Geordie KAI HUMPHRIES. His monthly shows at Newcastle’s Punch Drunk Comedy have been instant sell outs since the start and his high octane delivery is seeing him rising through the professional comedy ranks.

CHRIS HENRY started his joke telling career after performing song and dance shows in the holiday industry for six years (took him that long to figure out he couldn’t sing or dance). Now this loveable rogue can be found sharing his bizarre, eccentric and occasionally shocking tales – not of the variety for the dinner table – at the UK’s biggest comedy venues. Expect a routine leaner than Brad Pitt’s six pack.

After a blinder of a performance last year, former Asda trolley boy DARREN CONNELL returns to Dores to delight with his distinctive brand of Glasgow banter while JAMES KIRK is another comic to check out. Winner of the So You Think You’re Funny? New Act (previous winners include Peter Kay, Lee Mack and Dylan Moran), James “does comedy on his own terms”. At the ripe old age of 23 and with countless radio and television appearances and writing endeavours to his credit, Kirk is already a veteran of the comedy scene.

Winner of Scottish Comedian of the Year 2011, JAMIE DALGLISH paints a comical picture of Glasgow, merging anecdote and observation with a healthy dose of congeniality. A committed atheist, his material on religion and its defects is delivered with drollness and reserve. A solid and shrewd performer, Dalglish is one to watch. Another comic destined for lofty heights is MIKEY ADAMS. A string of well reviewed support slots to his credit including appearances at the Glasgow and also Leith Comedy Festivals plus acclaim as part of the improvisation troupe “Dance, Monkey Boy Dance” has seen to that.

Sunday Mail Champ winner and Scottish Comedian of the Year 2009, JOHN GAVIN is “an assured everybloke eager to decry his emasculation at having to watch Gok Wan and Mamma Mia! yet capable of nailing a cheeky oneliner” (The Scotsman). Want to know what girls really want from a guy? Don’t miss his set at RockNess. Also Highlands bound is SCOTT GIBSON, stand up comedian and Glasgow Mad Man. After “playing a sellout show to all my teddy bears at the bottom of my bed, I thought it time to move onto real humans. So far it’s been good, met some nice people, played in some cool venues and to date no one has burst into tears, been sick or tried to stab me. I’m classing that as a pretty good” – “He was ok, I didn’t want to stab him” – The Paisley Bugle.

With a show entitled ‘Accept Your Inner Plonker’, emerging Scottish stand-up CHLOE PHILIP reflects on red-faced brushes with celebrity, calamitous experiments in seduction and plays a medley of scorching joke-songs. Fast rising MC RAY BRADSHAW joins the bill too. Ray is ginger and it’s caused his some pain. Expect a set peppered with witty one liners. “Funnier than a falcon” as Frankie Boyle said.

Young Glaswegian scoundrel JOHN WALKER delivers “pure quality banter, no daft themes, just making punters laugh”. He’s one of Scotland’s best up and coming comedians as a result. Check him out and see for yourself. STUART MITCHELL swapped a life of banking and fast cars for comedy…an astute move as his hectic gigging schedule proves. As well as studying acting at the RSAMD, Mitchell became an “internet sensation” (Daily Record) after he appeared on Frank Skinner’s Opinionated TV show receiving a standing ovation by panel members Patrick Kielty, Sarah Millican and Skinner.

EDDIE CASSIDY’s rock solid comedy stacks funny line upon funny line as he builds to room killing punchlines. Eddie is one quarter of the Raw Natural Talent comedy collective and a regular contributor to iTunes top ten ScottishComedyFC podcast. ANNA DEVITT gave up her 9-5 to pursue her comedy dreams, a decision well made. Her sets deliver fast paced material, peppered with higher-than-average cheap jokes (her admission) but offset by supremely elegant wordplay she weaves into her routines.

NEIL BRATCHPIECE aka THE WEE MAN is the smallest member of the Bratchpiece Family. THE WEE MAN is a pure wee fiend whose stage demeanour ranges wildly from quite threatening to really very threatening indeed. An enthusiastic swinger in his spare time, his favourite TV shows are Crimewatch, Britain’s Dumbest Criminals and Watercolour Challenge and numbers Malcolm X, Ving Rhames and Sandi Toksvig among his heroes. Joining THE WEE MAN at RockNess is big brother DAVID BRATCHPIECE aka Bratchy. As one third of Scotland’s only family of stand up comedians (father Mark completes the trio) expect plenty of sibling comedic ribbing. “We are just the ringmasters of a very lunatic circus” says Bratchy. Indeed.

Commenting on this year’s comedy at RockNess, Festival Director Jim King said ““The comedy programme has been a brilliant addition to the festival and its gone from strength to strength. Led by Tim Minchin, we’ve got a great announcement of the very best from the Scottish comedy circuit and so the pub is going to be the place to grab a drink, kick back and have a few laughs.”

With things already shaping up to be an absolute belter for Camp Bestival’s fifth birthday this July 26-29, our festi-holiday feast of fun continues to grow with some exciting and exhilarating new additions to the bill. There’s even more musical joy to keep your hips swinging and toes tapping and a whole raft of inspirational action and amazingly erudite amusements to get your brains buzzing!

Rob da Bank says: “Word up Camp Bestivallers! Hope you dig the new additions as much as I do – Kitty Daisy and Lewis are practically family at Camp Bestival and are gonna rock (and roll) the main stage on Friday night. From Vintage Trouble to new folk heroes Skinny Lister and some great additions to the Arts Tent including Nile Rodgers being interviewed and Mathew Horne making us all laugh I’m getting more vibed up about Camp B than ever before!”

Massive favourites of the Camp Bestival crew, we are super-excited that Kitty, Daisy & Lewis will be making a very welcome return to Lulworth Castle. With their last album seeing them grow as song writers and gain them huge critical acclaim, we can wait to see the instrument swapping sibling trio in the Castle field again. Fresh from their stateside escapades folk shanty behemoth Skinny Lister will also be back for a foot-stomping sing-along. There will also be sets from the very hotly tipped Jamie N Commons, classic soulsters Vintage Trouble, rousing folk five-piece To Kill A King, acoustic troubadours Gecko, romantic story teller L.A. Salami, must-see Mancunians The Slow Show, Country & Western sextet Police Dog Hogan, suburban cowboy Clint Westwood – the man with one name and Bournemouth noiseniks Vlad.

There’s going to be major mash-up excitement on the dancefloors too, as the mighty Nextmen will be on hand to get the party absolutely jumping with their brand of Reggae influenced hip-hop finery and those that can’t resist a sinewave will be pleased to know that there will be some extreme bass love from Breakage to wrap your lugholes around. There will also be rug cutting manoeuvres from uplifting skank merchants Reggae Roast, Bestival and Camp Bestival favourites and genre surfing party beasts Sombrero Sound System, Xfm’s new music maestro John Kennedy, Wang Dang Doodle top boys In Light Of Aquarius, old Camp Bestival friends, the incredible Mix It UP DJ Kru and south coast drum n bass lynchpin DJ Charge.

We are incredibly excited, about our jam-packed line-up, that’s set to keep the excitement levels on turbo charge over the weekend. However, here at Camp Bestival HQ, we know that you discerning lot are also very fond of flexing your mind muscles and so we are thrilled to be presenting the latest news from our fantastically diverse programme of talks, discussions and spoken word offerings.

First up, we are bursting with excitement to announce one of the most prestigious live interviews we have ever had the honour to present at Camp Bestival… the legendary Nile Rodgers! He has very kindly agreed to treat us to a pre-gig live chat, complete with a meet and greet and a book signing! Nile will be sharing tales from his extraordinary life within the heart of the music scene and showing us how he created the sounds that defined the disco revolution. Totally unmissable.

Continuing our exclusive series of How To interviews in the East Lulowrth Literary Institute tent, we are also delighted that one of our favourite actors Mathew Horne will be joining us to tell us How To Be A Little Bit Funny! And we’ll be hearing from BBC2’s award-winning food writer Stefan Gates, who will be sharing his tales and adventures from Cooking in the Danger Zone.

Now, anyone out there who has kids (and we’re guessing that’s a lot of you!) will know how hard it can be sifting through the mountains of ‘advice’ about parenting. So you’ll be pleased to hear about Professor Tanya Bryon’s refreshing approach, How to Parent Your Own Way, helping you parent in a way that suits your own needs and your own kids.

For all you budding gardeners out there, the pioneering Richard Reynolds will be passing on his experience and expertise on How To Be A Guerrilla Gardener. And if you’re looking for love at Camp Bestival then drop into the Crap Dates Workshop with Rhodri Marsden to get some tips (and warnings!).

We are very proud to be welcoming back the RSA to present another bunch of bright thinkers and big ideas. Leading the programme will be a thought-provoking live panel discussion entitled The Kids Are Alright: Aren’t They? Join us for this special event about the future of Britain’s young people, featuring renowned Kids Company founder Camila Batmandjelih , Guardian journalist and author John Harris , the New Statesman’s Laurie Penny and a young member of the Oval Theatre Truth About Youth project. Also check out RSA Hour with renowned journalist and academic Jules Evans plus see Elaine Glaser and Laurence Shorter go head to head on either side of the RSA’s debate on optimism and pessimism.

We are also very pleased to be hosting a series of talks by ideas experts The School of Life. They will be helping us work out ways to Change The World, to Stay Sane and Enjoy the Outdoors.

The Tate is also back with their fantastic Great British Art Debate workshop, talk and exhibition in the East Lulworth Literary Institute and pop-up activities happening across the site. Family Matters is the last exhibition in the Great British Art Debate series, which aims to examine what family is and to explore what family means to you. Right on trend for all you families at Camp B!

There is a family portrait project led by leading photographer Marysa Dowling, who will be roaming the site to capture your unique family moments. Then there will also be a performance workshop on Saturday afternoon, led by artist Louisa Martin and a debate in a conversation with Tate Curators and very special guest, poet, writer and broadcaster Lemn Sissay M.B.E! Lemn Sissay says, “You are your own family. Once you know this you can offer family, friends and the world the benefits of being part of you.” What do you think? Join them on Saturday!

As the icing on the cake, you can also get involved in Family Matters, as we’ve mentioned before. There’s lots more information on that here.

To complete our programme of authors coming to Camp B this summer, we are well chuffed that our favourite Essex funny boy Russell Kane will be sharing a reading of his new book The Humourist. Another impressive string to this self-proclaimed chav’s bow…

We’ve also got our final flurry of talented spoken word artists to add to our impressive gang of talking maestro’s taking to the stage in the East Lulworth Literary Institute. Paul Cree, Bridget Minamore, Indigo Williams and Anna Freeman will be showcasing their latest lyrical offerings during the Tongue Fu and Poejazzi take-over sessions of Scroobius Pip’s Satin Lizard Lounge. This is some serious talent not to be missed folks!

Plus gentleman of many talents Richard Strange, will be joining us in the East Lulworth Literary Institute to share his one-man show An Accent Waiting to Happen. Featuring stories, readings from his memoir, acoustic songs, film clips and slides from his colourful life as a writer, musician, composer, nightclub host, actor, curator and adventurer.

And last but not least, gather yourself a team together to flex your aural muscles and test your recall skills at the The Sounds Familiar Music Quiz! In a brilliantly fresh and simple concept, DJ Al plays a track and you have to come up with the title or the artist or both. This is not a nerd’s muso quiz, this is for anyone who loves music!

Phew, and as if that’s not enough to whet your appetite, here’s a quick rundown of the other talks, spoken word and literary treats that we have previously announced: there will be live interviews; How to Change Lives with Camila Batmanghelidjh and How to Dick and Dom About (with Dick and Dom of course!). Spoken Word Artists include Scroobius Pip, Chris Redmond, Joshua Idehen, John Berkavitch, Jodi Ann Bickley, John Osborne, Alex Gwyther and John Sinclair, and Breakfast with Henry. And there will be author readings from Fabulous Baker Brothers, Joe Stretch, Matt Whyman, Richard Milward, Ben Crystal, Lerryn Korda, David Gatward, Stuart Evers and Howard Marks Reading Kids Stories.

The Bestival Foundation has proudly presented Rob da Bank’s Music Club in partnership with the Isle of Wight Youth Trust for over 6 months now on the Isle of Wight and it’s proved so popular that we’re bringing it to Camp Bestival with us! Situated next to the Sports Park, The Rob da Bank’s Music Club Tent will be offering music workshops and demos from our trusty volunteers and a host of celebrity DJ’s and Band members – all eager to show you their tricks of the trade. Open from 10am till 10pm for 14 – 18 year-olds there will be electric drum kits, decks, instruments and music production equipment to try out and it’s all free!

As it’s all gone British this summer what the Queen having another Jubilee and some event called the Olympics, we’re celebrating some of our country’s folk traditions. So we’ve got some right properrr Morris Dancing Sides from the South Coast coming to join in the fun. Festus Derriman Morris Dancers, Wyvern Jubilee Morris Dancers, Anonymous Morris Dancers and Hobos Morris Dancers will be dancing and shaking their bells throughout the weekend anywhere and everywhere; you could even join in the fun after you’ve finished your bacon sarnie in the campsite…it’s going to be Great British!
